What is CogAT?
Since 1968, CogAT, the Cognitive Abilities TEst has assessed general, abstract reasoning skills following the universally-accepted CHC theory on human cognitive abilities.
The latest generation offers a new test design with fresh content, up-to-date norms, and much more. CogAT offers detailed information on students’ Verbal, Quantitative, and Figural (Nonverbal) reasoning in less than two class periods through multiple, engaging measures that reflect student potential for learning.
CogAT measures students’ learning strengths, empowering educators to accurately identify each student for the opportunities they need to reach their academic potential.
With CogAT, qualified students are up to 4x less likely to be excluded from Gifted and Talented programs, multilingual learners are 5 to 10x more likely to be recognized as above average students, and educators using CogAT-informed instructional strategies can accelerate academic growth of their students by over 10% for reading and over 20% for math.
Identify hidden potential to fairly and accurately place students
CogAT is the most trusted solution for supporting fair placement in gifted and talented programs because it accurately reveals student strengths below the surface of academic achievement.
Compared to identification models that rely heavily on achievement assessments, CogAT is up to 4x more accurate in identifying qualified students.
Accurately assess multilingual learners’ academic potential
CogAT gives educators trustworthy data to understand whether multilingual learners need extra learning support or if they just need to continue to develop their English proficiency.
Multilingual learners with limited proficiency in English are 5 to 10x more likely to score average or above on CogAT than on an achievement assessment.
Build upon students’ strengths to accelerate student growth
CogAT’s Ability Profiles and instructional materials support educators in implementing differentiated, strengths-based instruction to help every student maximize their growth.
Add power to your current academic assessments by integrating cognitive ability insights. Move beyond measuring what students know to understanding how they learn – CogAT is empowering educators to personalise instruction and unlock every learner’s potential.
